tumàka't seeks to strengthen and promote contemporary dance in southern Mexico, through the creation, production and presentation of their works, as well as teaching and encouraging artistic national and international exchanges.

tumàka't was founded in 2007 under the direction of Vania Duran. In 2011 tumàka't received the support of Programa IBERESCENA for its project Panorámica by Argentinean choreographer Diana Szeinblum and was selected to participate in the Encuentro de las Artes Escénicas-Festival Internacional Cervantino with the piece Sutura.

The company has presented in Festival de Danza Contemporánea Oc-'Ohtic, Festival Otoño Cultural and Festival de las Artes in Merida, Yucatán and throughout Yucatan towns as part of the Itinerarte program organizad by the Departamento de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Mérida. The company has also participated in the Muestra Internacional de Danza de Oaxaca, in the Teatro de la Danza, Mexico city as part Childrens dance season as well as in six states in the south of Mexico as part of the 1er. Circuito de Artes Escénicas de la Zona Sur, Festival Puro Teatro 2010 and Festival Revueltas, Durango, among others.

Vania Duran | Director

Was born in Benque Viejo del Carmen, Belize in 1976. She received a BFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah, U.S.A., a Masters Degree in Arts Administration from the University of Barcelona. She is also a graduate from the Elementary Ballet School "Alejo Carpentier" in Havana, Cuba. She has performed with AlSur Danza participating in the co-production with the SIDance Festival, Korea and Festival Internacional Cervantino, México; Rastro Dance Company, New York; Repertory Dance Company and Performing Dance Company in Salt Lake City, U.S.A.

She received the Performer Grant (2006) and Young Choreographers Grant (2009) from the FOECAY Program and the scholarship Art Work for Kids Foundation for the development of artistic Works for Kids in the U.S.A.
